If you are a passionate collector of antique furniture, home décor, or historical memorabilia, the names of Henkel Harris, Drexel Heritage, and Stickley likely make you swoon. And you know that these priceless items need careful and precise handling. Whether you’ve recently inherited a Henkel Harris china cabinet, discovered a Stickley table at an estate sale, or successfully scoured the Internet for a Drexel Heritage walnut bookcase, you’ll need a trustworthy team to relocate your new-to-you timeless classic. Hiring experienced antique movers is a wise decision.

BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH A TRUSTED ANTIQUE-MOVING SERVICE:

  • Protect your item. While it is true that “they don’t make ‘em like they used to,” your antique furniture needs to be handled in a particular way that takes into account its unique design and points of strength. Antique furniture movers are experienced in examining, assessing, and handling uniquely shaped furniture of all ages and will know the best way to lift and transport your irreplaceable item.

  • Prevent injury. Antique furniture is often heavier and larger than its modern-day descendents. Antiques were not typically designed to be moved, so they may be unevenly weighted, perhaps quite top heavy. As a result, they can often get away from inexperienced handlers and cause serious injury. More than strength is needed to handle these items safely.

  • Prevent damage to your home. Houses have changed over the decades. Hallways and doorways come in all shapes and sizes depending on the era in which the home was built. Maneuvering a large, antique item through a home therefore requires skill and experience familiar with homes from any decade. Antique movers have the equipment and knowledge to pad and protect your home’s floors, walls, and doorways.

The crews of antique movers at Camelot Moving & Storage have been trained in the particular skills needed to handle furniture of all shapes, sizes, and ages in order to protect the item and your home.

Top 5 occasions for hiring an antique-moving company

Many different scenarios may call for contracting with an experienced antique-moving service. Here are just a few examples.

1. Staging a home for sale

While your home is staged and on the real estate market, your real estate agent will be hosting prospective buyers in your home. You may decide to keep your priceless, antique items away from the crowds by placing them in storage in the interim between homes. By hiring a full-service moving company with antique-moving services and storage services, you can minimize the handling of your items and the total cost of your move.

2. Hosting special events

Similarly, when you are hosting large family or special events in your home, you might opt to move your antique items to a safe space away from the crowds. Hire antique movers to skillfully relocate your irreplaceable furniture and belongings to an alternate location.

3. Moving heavy items

Moving a cumbersome item without professional help is not recommended. If you're trying to relocate an antique bedroom set, dining room, artwork, or memorabilia, hiring reputable antique movers is worth the time and money.

4. Antique piano moving

All pianos, both new and antique, need more than strength to be relocated safely. Experienced piano movers have the skill and specific equipment designed to handle pianos of all ages, shapes, and sizes safely.

5. Household changes

Are you adjusting your home for a new chapter, such as moving in your elderly parents, preparing space for a new baby or grandkids, or working from home? If so, antique furniture movers can help with relocating furniture.

FAQ

What types of antiques can be moved?

We’re up for any challenge, and with nearly 40 years’ experience handling antique moving, there’s not much we can’t handle. From original artwork to hoosier cabinets, armoires, buggies, and other collectables, we’ve seen and handled it all! Even some custom, built-in furniture, such as bathroom cabinets, can be moved if they are one unit. Give our office a call to schedule a video or in-person appointment to discuss your unique antique and its relocation requirements.

How do you handle large and heavy antique items, such as pianos or armoires?

Experience and expertise are essential to safe and proper handling of antiques. Many antiques are actually more than one piece. Marble tops are usually not attached. An inexperienced mover could easily damage the furniture and/or hurt themself without proper knowledge and experience of each piece of antique furniture.

Our crews, which consist of experienced antique movers, know how to assess the weight distribution of a piece, how and where it can be disassembled, and which piece of equipment will best assist in transporting the item. If it cannot be disassembled, our crew leader will ensure the proper number of crew members is used to carry the item to care for both the item and our crew.

How do you protect my antiques during the move?

We use top-shelf quilted furniture moving blankets of different sizes and thicknesses to protect your furniture while it is being transported and stored. We create and use crates as needed. We have a variety of specialized equipment to meet the unique needs of every move.

Antique furniture moving a long distance requires more padding than that of local moves due the extra miles and perhaps uneven terrain. However, we do not pad less for local moves. We bring our long-distance experience to every relocation, near or far, to ensure the safest handling and transportation.

Can you provide climate-controlled storage for my antiques if needed?

Absolutely! Our storage facility is a concrete, insulated building that is housed under the same roof as our offices. The composition, placement, and design of the building provide fire-resistance, proper drainage, and protection against moisture and extreme temperatures. We store all items at least 6 inches off the floor to protect against potential water damage. We employ a pest-control service, and we inspect items going into storage to prevent any unwelcome guests from moving into our warehouse. As a result, there has never been damage to our facility or its contents from fire, water, or pests.
